Comrade Adams Oshiomhole has dared Governor Godwin Obaseki to challenge his popularity among party men in a direct primary as he rebuffed a plea from his fellow governors for an automatic ticket to his successor and one-time political protégée.

The meeting with the APC governors in Abuja according to sources was full of revelations as Oshiomhole for the first time opened up to some of his own antagonists among the governors on his relationship with the governors.

One North-Central governor was said to have apologized to the national chairman after hearing his own side of the story of the relationship between him and his successor.

As a source privy to the meeting told GWG:
“Comrade told the governors that direct primary was the best that if G.O. is returned that the party could risk the chance of losing the election as the governor has offended so many people in the party.

“Comrade told the governors of the fate of the 14 lawmakers who were not sworn in. ‘Those 14 lawmakers control about 14 Local Government Areas. Do you expect them to keep quiet if Obaseki is on the ballot of the party. They will work against us because for them it is a personal issue of political survival,” the source quoted Oshiomhole as telling the governors.

“He also told them of several other political actors in the state who the governor had locked out who will be ready to work against the party if Obaseki is presented as candidate without a direct primary.”

“If we lose the election I know some of you (referring to governors opposed to him as national chairman) will point the accusing finger at me,” the source further quoted Oshiomhole as telling the APC delegation.

“If Obaseki says he is popular tell him to go and prepare for direct primary,” the national chairman was quoted as telling the APC governors as a matter of finality.
