Mr. Paul Ohunbamu on Thursday resigned with immediate effect as the Edo State Commissioner for Information bringing fresh questions to Governor Godwin Obaseki’s political stability ahead of the forthcoming governorship primary of the All Progressives Congress, APC.

He was promptly replaced by Mr. Stewart Efe, Public Relations Officer, Federal Neuropsychiatric Hospital, Uselu, Benin City.

A leader of the party broke the news on social Media Thursday afternoon, as he announced that others will follow soon.

The story reads thus:

“Paul Ohonbamu, Godwin Obaseki commissioner for information and orientation resigns. Others to follow soon,” he said.

Recall that ‎the Chief of Staff to Governor Obaseki, Mr. Taiwo Akerele, had resigned his appointment in April 2020. Ohonbamu’s resignation is said to be connected with the fierce battle following the reorganization of Edo Broadcasting service (EBS) which is state-owned

Reacting to the development on Thursday, the government announced the appointment of Mr. Efe as Edo State Commissioner for Communication and Orientation.

In a statement, Secretary to the State Government, Osarodion Ogie Esq., said the appointment takes “immediate effect.”

“The Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, has approved the appointment of Mr. Stewart Efe as Commissioner for Communication and Orientation. His appointment takes immediate effect,” he said.

Mr. Efe, until his appointment was the Public Relations Officer, Federal Neuropsychiatric Hospital, Uselu, Benin City.

He hails from Ward 9, Egor Local Government Area (LGA) in Edo State.

He was a top contender for Chairman, Egor LGA, in the last local council elections, but stepped down reportedly in the interest of the party.
