Why Arsenal Should Get A New Number 10!

It is visible to the blind and audible to the deaf that  Mesut Ozil’s days of glory at the Emirates are now in the past.

He was a huge signing for the Gunners under the tutelage of Arsene Wenger in the 2013/2014 season and he played a crucial role in Arsenal’s midfield with his incisive passing, superb vision and great ability to control the tempo of the game since his arrival.

However in recent times, the German playmaker has been a shadow of his former self. Some lackadaisical performances from him show that Arsenal need a new number 10 to support the tripartite formula of Lacazette, Aubameyang and Pepe upfront.

Notwithstanding, Mesut Ozil is a good footballer. At this juncture, what Arsenal need is a number 10 that can score more goals and Ozil is a goal shy player.

If anyone was to scrutinize the incoming champions Liverpool, you will notice that they have midfielders who are hungry to score goals and when their famous front three have been tamed by opposition defenders, the midfielders step up to score the goals.

Nevertheless, Mikel Arteta’s team which currently undergoing a recuperation process will need a change in personnel from the midfield in order to add more venom to the attack as Ozil cannot fit the pace anymore.

Basically, Ozil is revered for providing stunning assists and not for scoring crucial goals.

What makes an attacking midfielder ahead of the pack is the capability to go the extra mile by scoring goals in conjunction with the primary duty of spreading the ball to the attackers.

The fact is if Arsenal are to be regarded as serious contenders for the Premier League title or Champions League qualification spots, huge money has to be spent on a goal scoring attacking midfielder during the transfer window.
