Ex-SSG Vows To Frustrate Akeredolu’s Re-election
Says Akeredolu Did Not Win 2016 Poll
By Ayodele Oluwafemi
The just resigned Secretary to the Ondo State Government, Hon. Ifedayo Abegunde has vowed to work against the re-election of Governor Rotimi Akeredolu who he said was brought to power in 2016 after the victory of the PDP candidate, Eyitayo Jegede was manipulated behind the scene to declare Akeredolu winner.
Abegunde who described the governor as an awful man to work for described how he slaved for the governor but was left empty with the governor allegedly channeling contracts and resources to his family and in-laws in Imo State.
Abegunde who resigned on Monday spoke in an interview with Crest FM, Akure.
GWG had earlier reported how while in office most of the functions of the SSG were reportedly diverted to the Chief of Staff and the Head of Service of the state.
“I was suffering in his administration because he didn’t release any fund for my office grants. He has been telling lies that he was giving me N5m every month even when he knew he didn’t give me such money.
“Where on Earth did the governor give me such funds? Recently, I reported him to Governor Fayemi of Ekiti state and he promised to invite both of us to Abuja for settlement. I remember that I told Fayemi that I was going to spit on the face of Akeredolu if he repeated the lie that he was giving me N5m monthly, and I would then return to Akure to resign and as well Inform the public of his looting sprees,” he said.
Abegunde further disclosed that Akeredolu did not win the 2016 Ondo State Governorship election, against the official declaration, saying him and some APC chieftains manipulated the victory of People’s Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Eyitayo Jegede for Akeredolu.
He said that he regretted working for Akeredolu for three and half years, while saying that the governor has aggravated the suffering of the people of Ondo state since he was declared governor.
“Akeredolu didn’t win the election in 2016 but we made it possible for him to become governor. We were the pillars behind him and we will not support him again. He will lose this time around.
“The government of Akeredolu is making the entire people of the state to suffer and I cannot be part of that any longer. Everyone is suffering. He doesn’t pay salaries at the right time. As a matter of fact, Akeredolu has not performed to the expectations of the masses apart from the roads he is building,” he said.
He claimed that those who enjoyed benefits from the Akeredolu-led Government are his wife, son and in-laws from Imo State, noting that the governor has turned government property to family affairs.
“Akeredolu has reduced the government to the property of his wife, son and in-laws from Imo state. All the contracts in the state are being given to his wife, son and the people from Imo state,” he said.
