Claims by the deputy governor of Ondo State, Mr. Agboola Ajayi, linking Governor Rotimi Akeredolu to the impeachment moves against him have been described as the cry of a drowning man.

The state commissioner for information, Donald Ojogo has, however, acknowledged the enthusiasm of the governor’s supporters towards the impeachment process that was launched at the House of Assembly on Tuesday.

The development followed the filing of a notice of impeachment against Mr. Ajayi by 14 of the 26 members of the House of Assembly.

Mr. Ajayi has accused Governor Akeredolu of masterminding the script of the legislators.

Reacting to the assertions, Ojogo in an interview on Channels Television said such accusations and finger pointing were not unusual as he stoutly denied the direct involvement of the governor.

“Far from the truth, it is the cry of a drowning man,” Mr. Ojogo said.

“Mr. Governor is not particularly interested in pushing out the deputy governor from office. But those of us who are still members of the APC, who are still members of the government will also see to a very logical conclusion the process that the House of Assembly has commenced in a very altruistic manner.”

“What they have done today is that they are true party men and that they are representatives of the people.

“There are two legs to this: this man has left the party, he came on board on the ticket of the APC together with Mr. Governor.

“He has decided to dump the party and is insisting that he would not leave the government. The only reason that perhaps could be his compelling motive to remain in government is to create crisis.”
