Governor Rotimi Akeredolu of Ondo State has expressed regret picking Mr. Agboola Ajayi as his running mate ahead of the 2016 governorship election.

The governor said this while addressing Ajayi’s kinsmen during a campaign tour to Igbekebo, headquarters of Ese-Odo local government area.

Akeredolu and Ajayi have been at loggerhead leading to attempt to impeach the Deputy-Governor by the State House of Assembly.

Ajayi has already defected from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) where he (Ajayi) is contesting the governorship election.

He said Ajayi was picked in 2016 despite criticism and attack from various quarters alleging that Ajayi is his cousin.

Akeredolu said that the exit of Ajayi from the party is “a cleansing for better performance of the APC in Ondo State.”

He commended leaders of the party in Ese-Odo local government for standing firm and not leaving the APC with Ajayi, adding that it shows that his decision was not acceptable to the people.

Appealing for their vote on Monday, he said that he was prepared to do more for the people of the state.
