Wife, Son Of Dead Former Edo Speaker Kidnapped In Kogi

Hours after the death of Zakawanu Garuba, the erstwhile Speaker of the Edo State House of Assembly, his wife, son and some other family members were kidnapped by bandits within Kogi State on Saturday.

They were travelling along the Abuja/Lokoja/Okene highway when they were reportedly apprehended. Garuba died on earlier on Saturday morning.

The kidnappers, however, left behind the deceased’s aged mother who they could not move on account of her frailty.

The family members were on their way to Auchi apparently in connection with the development that followed the death of the family’s bread winner who died early on Saturday.

The Nigerian Post quoted the Kogi State police spokesman DSP Ayah William as confirming the kidnap. He also said that three of the abductees had been released but could not immediately confirm the identity of those released.

Sources revealed that Garuba died on Saturday morning in an Abuja hospital from an undisclosed ailment. He was aged 55.
