FAAN Slams DSS Chief With Assault
By Ayodele Oluwafemi
The Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria (FANN) has accused the head of Department of State Security (DSS), at the Nnamdi Azikwe International Airport, Abuja, Safiyanu Abba of slapping an aviation officer in the course of his duty of searching a visitor accompanied by the officer.
FAAN, in a statement, on Wednesday claimed that Abba assaulted the said aviation officer who was performing his responsibility by carrying out security check on visitors at the airport.
The agency disclosed that the incident happened on Friday, 17th July at about 3:25pm.
FAAN said, “We note with dismay that Mr Safiyanu Abba, the Head of DSS at NAIA deliberately obstructed airport security process, and slapped an Aviation Security Officer who was performing his duty by calling on Mr. Safiyanu Abba to desist from doing so.
“This happened on the 17th July at about 15:25 hours. He breached security procedure by obstructing further search of a visitor who had just walked through the metal detector and activated the alarm.
“The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria strongly condemns this abuse of power and the security process in our airport. This has also been duly escalated. FAAN is committed to the core values of safety, security, and comfort.”
This is the third time in July the agency will be criticizing VIPs for breaching COVID-19 Airport protocols, as former governor of Zamfara, Abdulaziz Yari and Governor Ahmadu Fintiri of Adamawa State were also reported to have allegedly recently breached COVID-19 protocols while passing through local airports.
