Many Nigerians have rejected the newly introduced licence fee for logistics and courier services by the Nigerian Portal Service, NIPOST.

NIPOST, in a statement, noted that international courier and logistics company will pay N20m as new licence fee, N8m annually for renewal, national courier and logistics company are expected to pay N10m as new license fee and N4m yearly.

Others that operated regionally are expected to pay N5m as licence fee, N2m as annual renewal, those at the state level will N2m as licence fee, N800,000 as annual renewal.

While those at the municipal level will pay N1m as licence fee, N400,000 as annual renewal, Small and Medium Enterprise are expected to pay N250,000 as licence fee and N100,000 as annual renewal.

This development came barely 24hours after the Federal Inland Revenue Service, FIRS, introduced 6% Stamp Duty for tenancy and lease agreement.

Many Nigerians have taken to the social media to reject the new charges introduced by NIPOST, saying it is an attempt to destroy small and medium scale businesses in the country.

@Matriarchh tweeted: “The new NIPOST policy is senseless and obviously born out of greed and selfishness.Literally in the middle of a pandemic and a government is doing this. Our collective voices have done wonders in the past. Let’s do it again.#SayNoToNipostFee.”

@OgbeniDipo tweeted: “NIPOST should not be allowed to charge these ridiculous fees, @femigbaja. Thousands of young Nigerians have lost jobs in the last few months. Some turned to courier services. A friend who lost his job bought these from Oride. Please don’t let him commit suicide.#SayNoToNipostFee.”

@DamiElebe tweeted: “Don’t think you’re mot affected. You are. We all are. As long as logistic services have to cough up this fee, your delivery prices will increase. Some may even be higher than the item you’re buying. #SayNoToNipostFee.”

@aproko_doctor tweeted: “How much does the average logistics business make per month with a bike or two? Yet you’re requesting them to pay one million naira for a license! How much does the online vendor make per day? You’ll stifle many businesses struggling to survive#SayNoToNipostFee.”

iSlimfit tweeted: “Dear VP @ProfOsinbajo, this fee proposed by @NipostNgn would definitely kill small businesses who rely on logistics for their goods delivery and I’m sure it doesn’t represent your vision for the ease of doing business in Nigeria. Please help! #SayNoToNipostFee.”

@OGCarterMillz tweeted: “If NIPOST was doing its job in the first place, we wont need dispatch riders. If the government were going their job in the first place, people wont need to be dispatch riders to survive. They should be ashamed instead of imposing fees.

#SayNoToNipostFee.”
