Kano Ulama Opposes Castration For Rape
The Kano Council of Ulamas has opposed the move to incorporate castration as a punishment for rape saying that it would propose an alternative which it said would be in line with Islamic injunctions.
The Ulama whle deposing its opposition to the scourge of rape, however, said that it had reservations against using castration to a punishment.
The Ulama in a communiqué issued by its chairman, Sheik Ibrahim Khalil, however, did not give reason for its objection.
The Kano State House of Assembly had earlier passed a resolution to adopt castration as a sanction against proven rapists upon a motion brought to the house by a member, Nuraddeen Alhassan, on July 15, 2020.
