The deceased national leader of Afenifere, Pa Ayo Fasanmi is to be buried in a double-decker tomb in Iye-Ekiti next Tuesday, his son, Afolabi Fasanmi has said.

The late politician and nationalist is to be buried on top of his wife who was buried in the lower partition of the tomb in 2014.

Speaking on the preparations made by Pa Fasanmi for his burial, Afolabi said:
“Baba wished to be buried as soon as possible and Tuesday next week is the most probable day at St. John’s Anglican Church in Iye Ekiti.

“Baba is going to share the same tomb with his wife. Mama died in 2014, it is a double-decker tomb. Mama is lying below in the double-decker and the arrangement was that whoever dies first will go under and who dies last will be on top.

“Baba will certainly lie on top and be on top of his wife. He led a very good life he will be united with his wife in paradise,” he said.

Earlier in the day, Afolabi Fasanmi had announced the demise of the politician.

The Osun State government has meanwhile condoled with the family over the demise.

Mrs. Funke Egbemode, the State’s Commissioner for Information and Civic Orientation in a statement in Osogbo, described the deceased as an epitome of humility, selflessness and integrity.

“Baba Fasanmi was a leader, who demonstrated his love for our great country in many laudable ways.

“He made enviable and remarkable contributions to his profession, to the socio-political development of Yorubaland, and to the nation at large.

“But more heart-warming was how he showed optimal concern for the welfare of the poor and underprivileged, and how he held leaders accountable on their promises of good governance.

‘We also recognise how much Osogbo, and Osun State as a whole meant to Pa. Fasanmi, who was transferred to Osogbo as a Pharmacist in 1951, and he chose to live here till he took his last breath.

‘The State Government of Osun appreciates all he accomplished in his lifetime, especially as a pivotal force in the socio-cultural and political bolstering of the Yoruba.

“The State Government prayed that God would comfort the family at this time,” Egbemode said.
