Nigerians were on Sunday engaged in a hot discussion over the propriety of some non-Muslims throwing away or out rightly rejecting sallah meat offered them by neighbouring Muslims.

The debate was stoked by a Twitter user who wrote, “Can we talk about how somebody gave my mum sallah meat and my mum refried it with anointing oil.”

Some Twitter users argued that those who refuse or throw away food or drinks from their neighbours, practising another religion, are hypocritical in their religious practice.

Muslims, on Friday, August 1, 2020, celebrated Eid al-Adha, which is popularly called Sallah. In the usual manner, goat sheep, cow or camel are killed, which symbolizes the sacrifice of Abraham and the meats are shared to others – Muslims and non-Muslims.

The Sallah celebration has become popular even among non-Muslims, due to the tradition of sharing of meat, especially mutton (ram meat).

Some non-Muslims even take to the social media platforms to call out their friends and colleagues, in an hilarious manner, who are yet to give them ram meat.

However, the attitude of some rejecting or throwing it away has enlivened the social media with both Muslims and some non-Muslims condemning the practice as hypocritical. Some, however, had a defence for their action.
