What Buhari’s Endorsement Means For Ize-Iyamu

President Muhammadu Buhari on Friday formally presented the flag of the All Progressives Congress to its candidate in the Edo Governorship election, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu following a meeting at the Aso Villa.

The presentation has immediately reset the permutations in the unfolding governorshp race as it showed the backing of the president for the APC governorship candidate.

Before now, Ize-Iyamu had been taunted by some of his critics who alleged that the president had not formally received him and acknowledged him as the candidate of the party.

With the development there are now fears that the presidency could bring the powers of incumbency to back his aspiration and by that wrong-foot the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP in the unfolding election.

The president gave his backing to Ize-Iyamu who was accompanied by other party leaders including the Chairman of the APC Caretaker Committee and Governor of Yobe State, Mai Mala Buni, the Chairman of the APC National Campaign Council and Governor of Kano State, Umar Ganduje, and the Governor of Kebbi State, Atiku Bagudu.

Ize-Iyamu’s visit to the Villa is ahead of the rally for his campaign flag-off slated for Saturday, 8th of August, at the Sports Complex of the University of Benin.

Buhari at the ceremony charged the leaders of the party across all levels to work in unison to ensure the victory of Ize-Iyamu at the polls.
