Biden Picks Harris, Woman Of Many Firsts To Be VP
By Emmanuel Aziken
United States Democratic Party, presumed presidential nominee, Joe Biden has picked Kamala Harris to become the first black woman to be put on the ticket of a mainstream party bidding for the White House.
“I have the great honor to announce that I’ve picked @KamalaHarris — a fearless fighter for the little guy, and one of the country’s finest public servants — as my running mate,” Biden, 77, said on Twitter on Tuesday.
The pick highlighted the repeated assertions of the US senator’s renditions of her mother’s prophesy towards her that her career would be marked with many firsts.
“My mother used to have a saying, she would say to me ‘You may be the first to do many things but make sure you’re not the last.’”
She was the first black attorney general of California, and also the first woman to hold the post. She was also the first woman of South Asian heritage to be elected to the US Senate.
She is now bidding to be the first woman to be elected vice-president of the United States.
