US, UK, Asked To Ban Buhari’s Aide Over Blasphemy Tweet

Amidst outrage over the Sharia court death sentence passed on Kano musician for alleged blasphemy Personal Assistant to President Muhammadu Buhari on New Media, Bashir Ahmad has again become a centre of social media controversy, following a tweet he posted depicting his support for death penalty for blasphemy.
The move has inspired a crusade by some social media influencers on the United States and the United Kingdom to ban the presidential aide from their countries.
Bahir Ahmad, in one of his tweets, in 2015, said he supports death penalty for blasphemy of Prophet Muhammad.
“I can’t pretend or keep silent. I support the death penalty for BLASPHEMY. That’s my belief and I do not and will never support #SaveKanoNine,” Ahmad wrote.
His tweet was a reaction to the death sentence passed on Abdul Inya, Hajiya Ibrahim and seven others by a Kano Sharia court for blasphemy of Prophet Muhammad, a development that sparked controversy, as many Nigerians used the hashtag #SaveKanoNine, to demand for their release.
The anger against the presidential aide was triggered when Twitter revealed that he had liked a recent tweet, by popular Muslim influencer, @Waspapping, saying that any disrespect against Prophet Muhammad should not be tolerated.
“When it comes to Prophet Muhammad (SAW) everyone else’s becomes secondary. He’s the most remarkable man in Islam and his disrespect would and should never ever be tolerated by any stupid human.” @Waspapping tweeted and it was liked by Ahmad.
Many Nigerians have criticized Ahmad for supporting death penalty for blasphemy, in the 21st century under a democratic system, without considering freedom of expression and religion.
Some have called on the United Kingdom and United States of America to reject any visa application from the presidential aide, due to what they perceived as extreme views.
