Ikpeazu Under Fire Over 20-Months Lecturers’ Salary Debt

Abia state governor, Okezie Ikpeazu has come under intense criticism on the social media over 20 months of unpaid salaries of polytechnic lecturers in the state.

The Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP), on Sunday, sent a petition to the National Human Right Commission over the refusal of the governor to pay 20 months salaries of Abia State Polytechnic, Aba, lecturers.

The National President of ASUP, Anderson Ezeibe, in a letter addressed to the Executive Secretary of the commission, on Sunday, said its members in Abia State Polytechnic are currently living in serious discomfort, noting that aside the 20 months salaries being owed, no form of palliative was given to them during this critical period of COVID-19.

The report has sparked outrage on the microbiology platform, Twitter.

Some Nigerians opined that the Ikpeazu-led administration in Abia state is not doing enough to ameliorate the plight of the people.

While others are criticizing the governor for making Abia state, the least developed state in the South-East.
