Nollywood actor Anayo Modestus Onyekwere, popularly called Kanayo O. Kanayo has joined the debate on the appropriateness of a man kneeling to make a marriage proposal to a lady.

Kanayo noted that he supported the argument of veteran actor, Pete Edochie that kneeling for a woman is unAfrican and African men should not engage in such Western culture.

The actor, during an Instagram live chat, said it is not everything Africans see on the television that should be imitated, saying it is not part of the Ibo culture for men to kneel for women.

In recent times, the debate of whether it is appropriate for an African man to kneel for a woman while making marriage proposal has been awash the social media.

Few weeks ago, in a viral video, a Nigerian man refused to kneel to propose to his girlfriend, despite several calls by the girlfriend and a third party for him to do so.

Reacting to the debate, Kanayo said, “I am an African and I stand with Pete Edochie on what he said. Its unafrican to kneel and propose to a woman. it’s unafrican.

“I am an African to that level. Like we always preach, it is not all you see on TV that you copy, it is an Instagram lifestyle. It doesn’t stop you from living it.

“Live it the way you want, we are not also saying, you must live with us in our stone age because when we talk about this some people who think they are more intelligent than us thinks to tell us we are coming from the stone age, don’t worry live your technological age but it is not part of our culture.”
