Kaduna State Governor, Nasir el-Rufai has again been at the receiving end of severe criticism on the social media over the criminal charges filed against Bishop of Zaria Diocese, Anglican Communion, Abiodun Ogunyemi arising from “defamatory comments” allegedly made against the governor.

Ogunyemi was arraigned before a chief magistrate’s court in Kaduna on charges filed by the Kaduna State Government pertaining to criminal defamation, injurious falsehood and criminal intimidation.

The bishop, had in November 2019, criticized el-Rufai over the planned demolition of some churches in the state.

Ogunyemi had opined that the governor will never become the president of the country for the action against the churches in Kaduna.

“The whole of the Sabongari Market is our land acquired in the early 1900s with genuine C of O which we have submitted to the state government for recertification. Any attempt by el-Rufai to demolish any of our properties in that market will be a direct assault on the church in the whole of Nigeria.

“The governor should know that he will never be President of Nigeria. I speak prophetically as a servant of the living God,” Sahara Reporters quoted Ogunyemi.

The case has been adjourned to October 28, 2020.

The development has generated mixed reactions with many Nigerians in support of the cleric.

Some argued that el-Rufai can never become Nigeria president, claiming that the governor shows a bias against Christians.
