Chelsea’s hunger for success in the forthcoming season has been evident through their activities in the transfer market.

After the major signings of Timo Werner, Hakim Ziyech, Ben Chilwell and Malang Sarr, Thiago Silva becomes their latest acquisition from French club PSG.

The veteran player completed a move from PSG on a free transfer for one year with an option of further extension. His stability in the defense for PSG saw him win myriads of trophies in France.

At PSG, he was the captain and he led to team to seven Ligue 1 titles, five Coupes de la Ligue and five Coupes de France.

He, however, was unable to win the Champions League with PSG. Their recent defeat to Bayern Munich in the final of Europe’s most prestigious club competition was a little dot to an otherwise glorious career.

His addition to the Chelsea team is a massive one, considering the fact that he is a world class defender who possesses a wealth of experience.

Chelsea’s director spoke on signing the 35-year-old Brazilian saying “We are delighted to be able to add a player of Thiago Silva’s proven world-class credentials to our squad.

“Having performed at the highest level for many years, we have no doubt his experience and quality will complement the many exciting talents we already have here.

“Thiago will be an excellent fit and we hope he can add some new trophies to his impressive list of honours.”

Having spent £47.5m on Timo Werner, £50m on Ben Chilwell, £33.4m on Hakim Ziyech and landing Malang Sarr and Thiago Silva for free, Roman Abrahimovic’s club is one of the busiest in the current transfer window. They are also on the brink of signing German midfielder Kai Havertz in a couple of days.
