Why Omo-Agege, Ogboru Are Fighting – Kokori

Chieftain of the Delta State chapter of the All Progressives Congress, APC Chief Frank Kokori has opened up on the simmering fight between the party’s 2019 governorship candidate, Chief Great Ogboru and deputy president of the Senate, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege.

Kokori who is also a member of the party’s Board of Trustees in an interview fingered supporters of the two men of fueling the crisis even as he disclosed that he had a commitment from the two men not to  fight publicly.

The issue between the two once close collaborators turned combatants has been a topical issue in the Delta State chapter of the party.

The conflict started shortly before the 2019 General Election after the state’s immediate past governor, Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan entered the APC and Ogboru to the discomfort of Omo-Agege reportedly set aside his long-time allies as he frolicked with the former governor. A number of party men close to the People’s General as Ogboru is popularly called by his associates were sacrificed in the party’s nomination list to make way for Uduaghan’s new allies, a matter that troubled the DSP and many other party stakeholders.

Omo-Agege eventually kept his cool as he allowed Ogboru develop and grow his new relationship with Uduaghan.

However, the sound defeat of Ogboru and the emergence of Omo-Agege as DSP and leader of the party in the state and the South-South was said to have worsened the situation.

Speaking on the issue in an interview with Vanguard, Kokori said:

 “The issue started during the 2019 governorship election with the inability of Ogboru to get the required votes to win the election. Most of his supporters suspected that Omo-Agege did not play his expected role during the polls by mobilizing enough support for Great for the election.

“But I have been talking to both of them and that is why they do not come out to challenge or abuse themselves publicly because that is one of the strong advise I gave to them.

“I have been involved with them and played the role of a father figure and have been reconciling them. But I feel the fire is being stoked by their supporters. That has always been the case and up till now, I have been doing my best in this regard.

“I am championing a peace move between both of them and I have done it more than three times even before the elections. But I have decided that both of them have to work together to uplift the party because if they both do not agree, it will affect the party.”
