Outrage Greets Buhari’s Nomination Of Media Aide As INEC Commissioner
By Ayodele Oluwafemi
The nomination of Lauretta Onochie, a media aide of President Muhammadu Buhari, as a commissioner in the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), has gotten people talking on the social media.
Buhari, in a letter, to the Senate President, Ahmad Lawan, which was read in the red chamber on Tuesday, sent the name of Onochie and three other nominees as commissioners of INEC.
Others on the list are Mohammed Sani (Katsina), Kunle Ajayi (Ekiti) and Seidu Ahmed (Jigawa).
The Special Assistant to the president on social media hails from Delta State and a staunch member of the All Progressive Congress (APC).
Her nomination as a commissioner of INEC, an electoral body that is expected to be impartial has elicited sharp reactions.
Some argued that Onochie is a card-carrying member of the APC and would be partisan in her duties as a commissioner.
