Babatunde Fashola, minister of works and housing, has come under intense criticism on social media for discovery of a camera at the scene of the shooting in the Lekki tollgate area of Lagos State.

Fashola, on Sunday, during the South West governors and ministers visitation to Lagos State to assess the damages done by hoodlums, found a camera at the Lekki tollgate.

Lekki tollgate was one of  the rallying points of the #EndSARS protesters in the state for 13 days.

That was until last Tuesday evening, when soldiers invaded the scene and opened fire on unarmed protesters who were singing the national anthem and holding the Nigeria’s flag.

During the assessment tour, on Sunday, the minister picked up the camera with a handkerchief and handed it to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, noting that it can be used for “forensic analysis” to unravel controversy surrounding the shooting.

The Lekki tollgate shooting by the soldiers has stirred controversy, as the number of casualties remained unconfirmed.

Fashola said, “I think this will help with the ongoing investigations into the shootings at the Lekki Toll Gate. It requires forensic analysis and could be used in the investigations to unravel the mystery surrounding the shootings at the Toll Gate, I believe.”

Fashola’s discovery has been met with harsh reactions from many Nigerians, on the microblogging platform, Twitter.

Some of those who have reacted to the development argued that the Lagos Waste Management Agency (LAWMA), on Friday, cleaned up the scene and none of the officials saw the camera at the scene.

Some also noted that the discovery of a camera at the scene by Fashola was stage-managed to influence the investigation of the Lekki tollgate shooting.
