The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has dismissed a corps assistant, Illiya Ibrahim from service, who was seen in a viral video carrying items looted from a warehouse in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

In a viral video that appeared on the social media, on Monday, Ibrahim was seen carrying a cartoon and some bags of rice, while some people around the scene were shouting “officer”.

On Monday, hoodlums attacked a warehouse at Gwagwalada area of Abuja, carting away food items, allegedly to be COVID-19 palliatives.

Reacting, NSCDC spokesman, Gbenge Ekunola,  said the officer has been dismissed from the service, following the approval of a disciplinary committee.

Ekunola said the officer was charged under public service rule, which is related to “unbecoming conduct of officers.”

“The Commandant General Abdullahi Gana Muhammadu has approved the recommendation of the Junior Staff Disciplinary Committee for the dismissal of Illiya Ibrahim of the Gwagwalada Division for joining hoodlums in looting Covid-19 palliatives discovered in a warehouse in Gwagwalada, Abuja.

“The recommendation was given after the officer was charged under the public service rule which is related to unbecoming conduct of officers.

“This disciplinary measure was taken after series of investigations and deliberations by the junior disciplinary committee and recommendations were made to the management,” Ekunola said.
