American Professor Slams Buhari As A Failure, But Some Nigerians Fault Him

An American economist professor, Steve Hanke, has set social media abuzz as he accused the administration of President Buhari of corruption, poor economic policies and intimidation of opposition.

GWG recalls that the All Progressive Congress (APC) led government of President Buhari rode to victory after it defeated the Peoples Democratic Party in 2015 as President Buhari had promised to wipe out corruption and promised to “belong to everybody and belong to nobody”.

However, Hanke asserts that Buhari has reneged on his promise as the economics professor took to his Twitter account with the handle, @steve_hanke on Sunday, saying that President Buhari has shunned and intimidated the voices of the opposition in the country.

He said: “Corruption in Sleepy @MBuhari’s regime is nothing new. Despite the #Nigerian opposition party’s fervent cries for justice, #Buhari has intimidated & harassed those who speak out against his regime – both in the courts and in the streets.”

He also kicked against the recent increase in the price of pump fuel saying that Nigerians are feeling the pains of President Buhari’s poor economic policies as inflation continues to rise in the country.

Hanke continued: #Nigerians are feeling the pinch from rising #Fuel #Prices. You can thank Sleepy @MBuhari for that. Under his rule, state-run #Oil refineries run at <10% capacity. Furthermore, soaring #Inflation is making a bad situation worse. Today, I measure inflation at 32.10%/yr.”

The assertions of the economist professor have sparked social media debates as many agreed with his view while some described him as a political jobber looking for attention.

Since, he unconscionably sacked the legitimate govt of Shagari in 1983, Nigeria was plunged into a bottomless pit of failure, and a comedy of errors was spawned. Thus, a broken society was etched out of that abyss of failure.”
