A goalless stalemate was the final result of the second match between Nigeria’s Super Eagles and Sierra Leone’s Leone Stars. None of the sides was able to breach each other’s defenses in the encounter.

Earlier, both teams shared the spoils in Nigeria following an entertaining 4-4 draw in Benin City. In contrast, there was a goal drought in the Freetown Stadium at Sierra Leone.

Kelechi Iheanacho who led the frontline due to Victor Osimhen’s injury was unlucky in front of goal. The red-hot Leicester City striker missed two chances and had a goal ruled out in the 61st minute. He was later replaced by Club Brugge’s Dennis Bonaventure.

Sierra Leone had good opportunities to take the lead as well, but Nigeria’s shot-stopper Maduka Okoye made some brilliant saves. John Keister’s men were left perplexed as it was difficult to find any goal.

It was not a day to remember for either the despondent Gernot Rohr or the valiant John Keister. The duo were frustrated not to get a match winning moment after two games.

This result at the  Freetown National Stadium means the Super Eagles would have to wait to secure a berth at Cameroon 2022, though they remain the top team of Group L with eight points after four matches.

The Super Eagles of  Nigeria are a point ahead of the second-placed Squirrels of Benin, who have garnered seven points after four matches.

Up next, Nigeria collide with Benin Republic in Benin on March 22 before a final fixture against Lesotho on home territory.
