Senator Ifeanyi Ararume, the Imo North Senatorial candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC in the forthcoming bye-election has denied instigating the impeachment of the immediate past Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Chiji Collins.

His denial was in the wake of rumours that the two men had a secret meeting recently triggering discomfort in the camp of Governor Hope Uzodinma who is believed to be opposed to Ararume’s Senate aspiration.

Collins was removed as Speaker last Friday by a majority of the members of the House of Assembly.

Responding to the speculations, Ararume in a statement issued by his Media Team in Owerri, on Monday said:

“Our attention has been drawn to a reckless claim that the impeachment of the former Speaker Collins was a consequence of a meeting between him and Ararume.

“We considered it worthwhile to give attention to this for record purposes which must be put straight to the public so that it won’t run with falsehood. To that affect, we wish to state categorically that there was no such meeting anywhere between Collins and Ararume.”

“Even since the lockdown came into effect as a measure to curb the spread of COVID 19, Senator Ifeanyi Ararume ever stepped out of Abuja, for the East except on September 2, 2020 when he came into the state for the APC Imo North primary which took place the following day, September 3, 2020. He left back for Abuja early morning on the 4th being the day after the primary without seeing any visitor in his house.”
