The abduction of some students by unknown gunmen in Katsina State, President Muhammadu Buhari’s home state at a time he is holidaying in his hometown, Daura, has sparked various reactions.

According to media reports, gunmen invaded Government Science Secondary School Kankara in Katsina State at about 10.15 p.m on Friday and abducted some students.

A policeman, who was manning the gate was wounded on the leg and is presently receiving treatment in a hospital in the town.

The Spokesman for the Katsina Police Command, SP Gambo Isah, confirmed the incident but could not reveal the exact number of students abducted.

Isah said “We are still taking the headcount of the students. Maybe no student was even abducted as some of the students had to escape from the school during the gun duel. So, I cannot give you the exact number of students actually abducted for now.”

Many parents have since trooped to the school to ascertain the safety of their wards and some Nigerians have taken to their social media accounts to lament the state of insecurity in the country.

The memory of Boko Haram insurgents killing over forty rice farmers in Borno few weeks back is still fresh in  the memory of many  and the recent attack of the Katsina school  at the beginning of Buhari’s week-long holiday has made many to again question the capability of the president to resolve the security crises in the country.
