Godwin Obaseki has revealed how he was quietly assured by Pastor Enoch Adeboye that he would defeat Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu in the last September governorship election in Edo State.

Obaseki who testified on Friday night during the testimony session at this year’s RCCG Holy Ghost Congress held at the church’s International Headquarters said he met Adeboye twice before the elections and on both occasions, he was assured of victory.

Obaseki’s main opponent in the primary of his former party, APC and in the main election were incidentally, Pastor Ize-Iyamu, a regional pastor of the Redeemed Church of God where Adeboye is general overseer.

The governor said: “When it looked impossible and when men rose, He (God) came out to say that He is God and only He has the power.

“About the time when the crisis started a year ago, I came to the (RCCG) camp with my wife and met Daddy G.O.”

The governor added that after explaining his political challenges, Adeboye told him, “My son, it is well. Don’t be afraid, you will overcome and you will win.”

According to him he again went to see the cleric before the main election.

“A few months before the election, I came again to see him (Adeboye) and he prayed for me and with me and he said, ‘It will be well.’”

The governor, however, did not mention the fact that Ize-Iyamu, his main challenger is a senior member of the church.
