Fresh Fight Brews Between Lai, Kwara Governor

Few weeks after Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazak of Kwara State pledged to work harmoniously with the Bashir Bolarinwa led executive of the All Progressives Congress, APC in Kwara State, a fresh crisis has arisen in the state chapter of the party.

The fresh crisis follows attempts by supporters of the governor to again sack Bolarinwa from his position as chairman of the caretaker committee of the party in the state.

Bolarinwa is a strong loyalist of the minister of information, Alhaji Lai Mohammed who had been targeted by the governor’s loyalists on account of his political proclivities towards the minister.

On Sunday, a group identified as the Elders Caucus of Kwara state chapter of the APC addressed a press conference where they called for the reconstitution of the caretaker committee headed by Bolarinwa on the claim that Bolarinwa.

The call followed the inauguration of Bolarinwa as chairman of the newly sworn-in caretaker committee by the national caretaker committee of the APC last Friday.

Fuming against the decision, the party’s elder caucus comprising Rev. Bunmi Olusona, Senator Oyewo, Senator Ahmed Ahmed, Hon Ayinla Folorunsho, and Senator Makanjuola Ajadi among others alleged that Bolarinwa headed a caretaker committee which according to them should not succeed another caretaker committee.

Rev. Olusona who addressed the press on behalf of the group while also condemning inferences to the governor for their call said:

”We are aware of all the various inglorious moves by those who are only loyal to their personal interests and ambition than the survival of the party, these crops of party supporters want to take us back to the era of slavery, that we all collectively said O to ge.

Vowing that the people would not be enslaved again said:

“We are by this position calling on the national caretaker committee that Kwara dissolved exco was a caretaker and this had on several occasions been complained against via representation of papers immediately after the election because of the lopsided constitution of the caretaker.

“For the avoidance of any doubt, our great party’s NEC resolution for dissolved exco to transform to caretaker automatically should bind on substantive party executives produced by congress only, Kwara state party exco was a caretaker committee and can’t be dissolved and swear in again as a caretaker exco.

“We hereby call for fresh constitution of Kwara Caretaker committee that will put in place through Congress, a proper state party executive that will reflect true democracy and guarantee continuous support of APC by Kwarans.

“The national caretaker should also appoint men of honor that will not contest, as caretaker committee members for Kwara State.”
