Former Lagos gubernatorial aspirant, Babatunde Gbademosi, has come under criticism over his call for the arrest of Ugandan citizens in Nigeria following the arrest of Nigerian musicians, Omah Lay and Tems.

GWG recalls that the musicians were arrested by the Ugandan police on Sunday after they flouted COVID-19 rules by performing in an “authorised show”.  The musicians were charged to court on Monday but they were released from Ugandan detention on Tuesday and all charges dropped after public and diplomatic outcry.

However, Gbademosi had taken to his Twitter handle on Tuesday to question if Ugandans citizens still roam the streets of Nigeria freely.

He wrote: “Are there any Ugandans roaming free in Nigeria right now? If so, why?” According to Gbademosi, who recently ran for the Lagos East by election, explained that there is retaliatory diplomacy as the likes of former Presidents Obasanjo and President Jonathan had once  used the tactics before.

GWG recalls that Gbadamosi was at the height of the lockdown in Lagos charged for contravening the lockdown but the charge was withdrawn after an apology.

However, the explanation of Gbademosi could not convince many as popular activist, Aisha Yesufu, questioned his suitability for public office with the kind of disposition he showed on the issue.

Ms Yesufu was joined by several other Nigerians in calling out the opposition politician.
