The release of over 300 boys abducted by Boko Haram has renewed the call for the release of Leah Sharibu, who was also abducted by Boko Haram insurgents.

GWG had earlier reported how Boko Haram had invaded Government Science Secondary School, Kankara in Katsina State and abducted over 300 students.

In 2018, Boko Haram had kidnapped 110 school girls in 2018 from the Government Girls’ Science and Technical College (GGSTC), Dapchi in Yobe State.  However, in March 2018, everyone except Leah Sharibu were returned because she refused to abandon her faith and convert to Islam.

The recent abduction and release of the schoolboys have sparked debate on social media as many are of the view that if the government can negotiate and pay ransom for the school boys, nothing stopped the government from doing the same for Leah Sharibu.

According to the governor of Zamfara State, Bello Matawalle, the 344 schoolboys  were released through the help of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) and repentant bandits.

Reacting to this development, award winning journalist, Fisayo Soyombo, was of the view that the government should join hands with Miyetti Allah to secure the release of Leah Sharibu.
