Okorocha, Uzodinma Split Ohanaeze
By Chuks Ekpeneru
The political crisis ravaging Imo State Chapter of the All Progressive Congress deepened on Saturday as it emerged that former Governor Rochas Okorocha and his successor, Hope Uzodinma sponsored rival candidates for the National Executive for the foremost Igbo socio-cultural group, Ohanaeze. Nigerians as such woke up on Monday morning to claims of how Okorocha, Uzodinma split Ohanaeze.
Governor Hope Uzodinma and some other leaders had supported the emergence of Prof. George Obiozor as the President Generals of the group in an election held on Sunday at the Dan Anyiam Stadium in Owerri, capital of Imo State.
Uzodinma and Okorocha are fighting for the soul of APC in the state.
The former governor was said to have supported the parallel election that produced Chidi Ibeh as the President Generals of Ohanaeze Ndigbo.
Ibeh is a former commissioner in Imo State.
The parallel election on Saturday at an undisclosed venue also saw emergence of Dimm Uche Okwukwu and Okechukwu Isiguzoro as Deputy PG and Secretary-General respectively.
The Okorocha’s camp had earlier opposed the consensus arrangement adopted by Governor Uzodinma.

Remarkably, the national leadership of the APC which had earlier backed Uzodinma by investing him with the state structure of the party has also backed him by endorsing Prof. Obiozor as president-general who was backed by the incumbent governor of Imo State.
In endorsing Obiozor’s emergence, the secretary of the National Caretaker Committee, Dr. John James Akpanudoedehe in a statement hours within the election said:
“Going by his distinguished service to the nation, Obiozor’s experience and suitability for the strategic position of President-General of Ohanézè Ndígbo is not in doubt. The Party hereby urges Ndigbo to support Obiozor to fulfil the mandate of the organisation.
“While the APC is ready to partner and work with the new leadership of Ohanézè Ndígbo towards our shared development, we are also confident that the new leadership will be a bastion for the unity and tolerance all Nigerians should imbue for the peace and progress of the nation.
“The APC wishes the Obiozor-led Ohanézè Ndígbo a successful tenure.”
