Buhari Should Put Igbo As IG – Ohanaeze Assembly
The Ohanaeze Ndigbo General Assembly Worldwide has disowned the new Chief of Defense Staff, Major-General Lucky Irabor as Igbo and called on the president to soothe Igbo disappointment by appointing an Igbo officer as the next Inspector General of Police. The group said appointing an Igbo as IG was the right thing to do.
The group while commending President Muhammadu Buhari over the appointment of new service chiefs insisted that the new General Irabor is not Igbo as hailed in some quarters.
General Irabor is Agbor from Ika South Local Government Area of Delta State.
The group in the statement issued by the president-general of the group, Onyeachonam Onuorah while commending the president over the rejigging of the security architecture of the military services which it said would help address the security concerns in the nation, however, observed the disappointment of the Igbo that there was none from the ethnic group appointed.
The statement of the group read in part, “There is no Igbo man among the newly appointed Service Chiefs. Those who claim that the newly appointed Chief of Defense Staff Maj Gen Leo Irabor is an Igbo man should tell us if Irabor is an Igbo name.
Noting why the president should appoint an Igbo as IG, the group said:
“As the Inspector General of Police is due for retirement and fast getting ready to exit the police apex position, we call on the APC- led Federal Government to consider an Igbo man for the position of the Inspector General of Police.
“If there is no Igbo man or woman qualified for the job of the IGP, promote the Igbos next in line in the Police Force to fit in.”
