Warri leader, Chief Rita Lori-Ogbebor has petitioned the police accusing the Ologbosere of Warri Kingdom, Chief Ayirimi Emami, Prince Yemi Emiko and Olori Mary Emiko of covering up what she claimed as the death of the Olu of Warri, Ogiame Ikenwoli’s death for their selfish interest.

In a petition to the police made available to GWG, titled Petition on Ogiame Ikenwoli’s Whereabout, the Warri chief alleged that the three persons exposed the Olu of Warri to COVID1-19 and that the Olu died of the pandemic but the death is being covered up by the trio.

She has thus asked the police to invite them to explain the circumstances of the Olu. She is also asking that representatives of Lily Hospitals, Deco Road, Warri which  according to her is “the medical facility to which the king was referred before his demise be also invited to assist the said investigation process.”

Even more, she is asking that the “suspects be restrained from any further acts that might ignite the anger of the people and breach the peace and tranquility of the area.”

In her petition styled as an affidavit written by Miss Emi A. Enegbe for RAPHAEL OYEWOLE AND ASSOCIATES, the Warri chief said she heard the reports of the demise of the Olu of Warri on 20th December, 2020 and as a Warri chief immediately relocated to Warri.

She said that at a meeting on the issue with other chiefs,

“That to the uttermost dismay and chagrin of our client, most of the chiefs present at the said meeting including Chief Robinson Ariyo, the Egogo of Warri Kingdom, a practicing lawyer and human rights activist conformed to our client that the king was exposed to situations and circumstances that were flagrantly in violation of the COVID-19 protocols, allowed to attend prolonged social gathering and meet with visitors some of whom were found to be infected with the virus and also died.”

The petition alleged that “instead of owning up to their negligent acts, the above named handlers of the king have continued to conceal the death with a view to covering up their culpability under the underscored provision of the law with the intention of evading justice.

“That contrary to conventions and tradition, that it is mandatory that an emergency meeting of the Warri Council of Chiefs be called to internally and exclusively deliberate on the circumstances of the demise of the king including the cause of death.

“That the further findings of our client is that the aforesaid named handlers have amongst themselves been jointly and severally exercising and performing functions that are exclusive to the king and they appear to relish this development which is prohibited by the custom and tradition of the people.”
