My 2023 Plan Is Mere Speculation – Jonathan

Dr. Goodluck Jonathan has firmly put his alleged 2023 presidential aspiration as a mere speculation as he affirmed his devotion to serving God and humanity for the rest of his life.

Dr. Jonathan spoke when he led a delegation of Bayelsa citizens to condole with Governor Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta State on his father’s death.

Speaking to reporters following the visit, the former president said:

“On the rumour of my interest in the 2023 presidential election, it was mere speculation.

“I will continue to serve God, humanity, Africa, and the world to the best of my ability and with all sense of commitment and sincerity.”

Reacting to state of insecurity in the country, the former president called for more support and synergy from all stakeholders towards resolving the situation. He, however, said that he believes that President Muhammadu Buhari and the nation’s 36 state governors were not sleeping over the matter.

According to the former president, it was only by coming together that the nation will be able to defeat the insurgents, Jonathan said besides dismissing his alleged 2023 plans as mere speculation

“I believe that with the commitment of the governors and the Federal Government, we will be able to address the issue of security in the country.

“I believe that the President himself is not sleeping and that the governors are not sleeping as well over the insecurity challenge in the country.

“As long as the governors, the President, and all the security agencies can work together, Nigeria will be able to cross over this very ugly phase of societal evolution.”

Governor Okowa on his part commended President Jonathan for the visit and in commiserating with him and his siblings over the loss of their father.

“We appreciate your fatherly role even within our own South-South region and I must actually use this opportunity to thank you for the establishment of the Maritime University in Okerenkoko because that actually did bring peace to us as a state,” Okowa noted.
