Exclusive: Ayade Leaving PDP as Party Snubs Court Order Against S/South Congress
Governor Ben Ayade was on Tuesday setting the stage for his defection from the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP to the All Progressives Congress, APC after efforts by some of his political associates to stop the South-South Zonal Congress of the PDP failed.
The governor’s defection, GreenWhiteGreen GWG, learnt on Tuesday, is upon lingering issues between him and particularly Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State who the governor and his associates have in the past accused of interfering in the internal affairs of the party in Cross River State.
The governor upon the developments made a no show at the ongoing PDP South-South zonal congress which is electing a new zonal executive.
An associate of the governor told GreenWhiteGreen GWG that Ayade does not have any stake in the congress.
“You know we launched our health insurance scheme today,” the associate said before going on to say that “the governor does not have any stake in what is going on in Port-Harcourt.”
“As a matter of fact his stake is not with the party there but rather with the APC and I can tell you he is pitching his tent there,” the source said on the basis of confidentiality because he was not authorized to speak on the issue.
Besides his no show at the PDP Zonal Congress, Ayade was also absent at the meeting of the South-South governors at the Government House, Port-Harcourt.
Meanwhile, a court action instigated by some PDP stakeholders to stop the PDP Zonal Congress, holding in Port-Harcourt was on Tuesday dismissed by party officials as irrelevant.
The congress which was set to elect Chief Dan Orbih GreenWhiteGreen GWG learnt was made to go ahead after party officials said that they were not served.
Even more, the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC it was gathered was also not served. INEC which is monitoring the congress was not a party. The suit is believed to be linked to the plan by Ayade to leave the PDP.
Justice S.M. Anjor of the Cross River High Court had upon a motion brought by Kingsley Isong, Raphael Ntui, Ogar Aloho and Odama Odama against the PDP, Prince Uche Secondus and the National Organising Secretary, Col. Austin Akobundu (rtd) had issued an interim injunction restraining the national chairman of the PDP, Prince Uche Secondus and –from going ahead with the “South-South Zonal Congress on the 9th of March, 2021 or any other date pending the determination of the Applicant’s Motion on Interlocutory Injunction.”
While granting relief to the application, the judge deferred hearing on the substantive motion to 21st March, 2021.
