Northwest, NorthCentral Stakeholders Laud TETFund On Service Delivery

Some participants and stakeholders at the end of first phase of a four-day capacity building workshop, organised by Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund), have commended the Fund’s commitment to effective service delivery.

They gave the commendation in a separate interviews with the News Agency of Nigeria(NAN) on Tuesday in Abuja.

The participants who were drawn from all public universities, polytechnics and colleges of education from the North Central, North East and North West, said TETFund’s commitment

to achieving its mandate was highly commendable.

One of the participants, Dr Onu David, Director Quality Assurance, Federal College of Education, Zaria, Kaduna State, said that the Fund had performed excellently, particularly in its intervention in tertiary institutions

David, who commended the Fund for organising the workshop to further enlighten stakeholders on their roles, described it as very educative with stimulating discussions.

“My work had essentially been centered on curriculum implementation, organisation, accreditation, teaching and learning as the case may be.

“With the workshop however, I have been exposed to how project is an integral part of my job,” he said.

He, however, urged the Fund to work on having an automated system where it could rank tertiary institutions without being necessarily present.

“They can profile institutions and know the research output of academics without necessarily visiting the institutions.

“All these things are done online now, so I think TETFund should scale up in that direction and institutions also need to be very visible online to make that easy,” he said.

Mr Enyinnaya Akueshi, Head of Projects, Directorate of Physical Development, Works and Services, Open University, commended the Fund for intervening in various areas in the university.

“We have a lot to take back to our various schools. We may also need to train others in the area of research, projects and many more,” he said.

He, however, advised that the Fund to consider training for non-academic members of staff because there are also some needs that are non-academic.

Mrs Hadiza Suleiman, Acting Director, Quality Assurance, Adamu Tafawa Balewa College of Education, Bauchi State, said the workshop was very enriching.

“This is first of its kind and it has put us through on how to access TETFund interventions,” underpinning her prospect as one of the stakeholders in TETFund.

“We were trained on the guidelines to follow, time management and service delivery among others,” she said.

She, however, called on the Fund to assist in the area of academic training and development.

She said, “the college was established in 2015 and because we were not trained on how to apply for interventions, we submitted our application late and missed out of a particular intervention.”

The News Agency of Nigeria(NAN) reports that the Executive Secretary of TETFund, Prof. Suleiman Bogoro, had in his opening address at the workshop, tasked benefiting institutions on adhering strictly to the guidelines to be able to access funds for projects.

Bagoro, who was represented by Mr Unchendu Wogu, a Director in the Office of the Executive Secretary, TETFund, said the theme of the workshop, “Building Skills Effective Service Delivery” was apt.

He noted that for any institution of higher learning to benefit from any form of intervention, it was important to adhere to all necessary guidelines, adding that “this year’s theme is crafted on the premise to nurture and deliver more appropriately on building skills.

Another of the stakeholders added ”we want to achieve result as TETFund in line with our mandate. However, this could be jeopardised if there are dysfunctional services in our benefiting Institutions.

“The workshop will cover quality assurance methods and enforcement in infrastructure and content based interventions in beneficiary institutions, strategic planning , corporate objectives and call analysis.

“Others are, time and self management in service delivery, effective communication and efficient and efficient service delivery in the era of Information Communication Technology(ICT).

“There will also be a rundown of TETFund intervention guidelines encompassing education support services, physical infrastructure, research and development, monitoring and evaluation.”

NAN further reports that the second phase of the workshop which will also last for two days, will accommodate participants from South East, South West and South South.(NAN)
