Despite Reducing Him, APC Governors Hail Tinubu At 69

All Progressives Congress, APC governors on Sunday lauded Asiwaju Bola Tinubu for providing inspiration and guidance to them despite repeated allegations that most of the governors are working against his presidential aspiration.

The chairman of the Progressive Governors Forum, PGF Chairman, Alhaji Abubakar Bagudu, gave the commendation in a statement issued on Sunday in Abuja to congratulate Tinubu on his 69th birthday.

GreenWhiteGreen GWG reports that most of the APC’s 20 governors either kept quiet or actively collaborated to moves to diminish Tinubu’s stature in the APC.

They were actively involved in the removal of Comrade Adams Oshiomhole as national chairman which was despite Tinubu’s injunction to keep him in office.

When Oshiomhole needed the APC governors in the Edo State governorship election in September 2019, nearly all of them with the notable exception of about four governors aligned to Tinubu looked away. There were also reports that many of the governors actively worked against the party’s candidate, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu to spite Oshiomhole and Tinubu.

The governors are also actively pushed for the ongoing revalidation of membership exercise, a move that was largely interpreted to whittle down Tinubu’s influence in the party.

Despite the bad blood, the governors in the statement issued by the PGF chairman, Bagudu hailed Tinubu for giving them inspiration.

“PGF joins all Nigerians to celebrate the birthday of His Excellency, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu; we celebrate this special occasion with Your Excellency and your entire family.

“We particularly wish to acknowledge and commend your untiring and selfless leadership and commitment to a united and prosperous Nigeria.

“We rejoice with you and will always continue to look up to you for inspiration and guidance,” Bagudu, who is also the Governor of Kebbi, said.

He acknowledged Tinubu’s contributions to the emergence and growth of APC, emerging from opposition to a governing party.

This, he noted, was through hard and very difficult negotiations which had bestowed upon the party’s leaders the responsibility of managing the country’s affairs.

Bagudu added that this was a historic achievement that past political leaders of the country were unable to achieve.

He further noted that under the leadership of President Muhammadu Buhari, in partnership with many other leaders of the party, including Tinubu, the politics of Nigeria was passing through fundamental changes.

Bagudu said this had necessitated the institution of enduring progressive governance in the country.

“As our national leader, you certainly represent one of the inspirations for our successes.

“Congratulations and happy birthday to Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, the Jagaban of Bogu Kingdom,” the governors said.
