Kidnap: Bandits Demand N50m Ransom, RCCG Offers Prayers

The bandits who took away the eight evangelists of the RCCG in Kaduna on Friday have demanded a N50 million ransom for their release. The church, however, is offering prayers and supplication for the release of the brethren.

The N50 million ransom demand was made after the kidnappers established contact with the leadership of the RCCG, Channels Television reported.

The spokesman of the Church in Kaduna province, Alao Joseph confirmed the ransom demand to Channels, but there was no indication that the church was in negotiation with the bandits.

He said, “We feel completely disturbed by the development, and as a church, the best we can do is to pray that God will intervene and these brethren will return home to their loved ones. As a church, we are praying now and asking God to take charge of the situation. A report has also been made to the police.”

Rather, the church seems to have taken up to prayer and supplication.

The RCCG Head of Media and Public Relations, Pastor Olaitan Olubiyi, in an interview, told Sunday PUNCH that while the church was working to release its members from the grip of the bandits, he also, he said that prayer was a priority.

GreenWhiteGreen GWG reports that the eight RCCG evangelists were abducted by yet-to-be-identified bandits along the Kaduna Kachia road while on a missionary trip.

The incident adds to a number of yet unsolved kidnapping incidents in the state with the most notable until now being the kidnap of 39 students of the Federal School of Forestry Management in Kaduna.

The 39 who were kidnapped on March 12 have remained incommunicado and the case of one of the students, Fatimah Ibrahim was compounded after her father, died of a heart attack following the communication of the news to him.

The Nasir El-Rufai administration in Kaduna has repeatedly claimed that it would not negotiate with bandits and it is unlikely it would unbend itself because of the RCCG bandits.
