Rivers 2023: Abe Says Amaechi Can’t Zone Ticket

Magnus Abe has hit at Rotimi Amaechi saying that he lacked the power to zone the All Progressives Congress, APC governorship ticket to the riverine part of Rivers State.

Abe reacted following claims that Amaechi had at a meeting of party stakeholders at Ogu-bolo, given indication that the APC’s next governorship candidate would come from the riverine area.

Disagreeing with Amaechi, former Senator Abe said it was not in the power of Amaechi to unilaterally decide on where to zone the party’s governorship ticket.

Abe spoke to party supporters in Port-Harcourt during which he said that the party was yet to form its structures and hence that it was too early to take a decision on the governorship ticket.

“When the minister of transportation visited Khana, he started well. He said that every member of the party will be involved in the decision-making process of the party. But last week, the same minister was in Ogu bolo where he said that the governorship candidate of the party will come from the riverine part of the state. I want to say that the minister’s comment about zoning at Ogu bolo was his personal opinion.

“He, as an individual cannot determine on his own the area or zone where the party’s governorship candidate will come from. The zoning of APC governorship ticket should be the unanimous and collective decision of all the party members,” the former lawmaker said.

The latest denunciation by Abe on the claim that Amaechi determined to zone the ticket is the latest in the faceoff between the two men.

Abe and Amaechi who were once collaborators fell out in the period leading to the 2019 governorship election when the former senator made a failed bid to win the party’s ticket.

The crisis dovetailed to the APC not producing candidates in the 2019 round of elections.
