Angry Workers Block Convoy Of Deputy Governor Of Nasarawa State
On Friday, a protest was staged by the angry workers of Doma Local Government Area of Nasarawa State over the failure to pay 2 months’ salaries and the alleged disappearance of N20 million which has been deducted from their salaries by the Federal Mortgage Housing Scheme.
The aggrieved workers allegedly didn’t not heed to the words of the state government who averred that it is making efforts to address their plight. They barricaded roads and prevented the movement of vehicles.

According to reports, the blockage of the road started on Monday and a “special prayer” was conducted in the middle of road.
Reacting to the protest, the Council Chairman accused his predecessors of the non-payment of the workers, saying illegal employment of civil servants aggravated the situation.
According to him, the shortage of funds to pay workers’ salaries resulted in the protest staged by the workers. He noted that it was a problem the whole state is encountering.
Speaking about the missing Federal Mortgage Housing fund, he refuted all claims saying the Local Government borrowed the money to pay salaries to workers.
He said;
“The money of Federal Mortgage Housing fund is not missing rather we borrowed the money to pay staff salaries, saying that all the Union leaders were aware of the transaction,”
He added that a whooping sum of N2.1 billion is required from 13 Local Governments to clear all the unpaid salaries of staff in the last 2 months.
Meanwhile, Mr Baba Ali who happens to be the Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress in the Local Government is yet to comment on the recent developments.
