Real Madrid UCL Exit: Wike Denies Witchhunt Of Chelsea Fans
The Rivers State Government has denied claims that Governor Nyesom Wike ordered the arrest of supporters of English premier side Chelsea following the club’s triumph over the governor’s favoured side, Real Madrid.
GreenWhiteGreen GWG reports that Chelsea had on Wednesday, May 5, 2021, thrashed European giants, Real Madrid in the semi-final of Champions League in the second leg of the semi-final. Chelsea was forced to a 1-1 draw in the first leg played in Madrid.
Governor Wike is one of the best-known supporters of Real Madrid and has used his influence to establish a Real Madrid Academy in Port-Harcourt.
Following the Chelsea defeat of Real Madrid, there were rumours that a pained Wike had given orders to security agencies to arrest those seen wearing Chelsea shirts.
Reacting to the rumours in a statement made available to GreenWhiteGreen GWG, the Commissioner for Information, Rivers State, Paulinus Nsirim though quiet on how Governor Wike took the Real Madrid in the hands of Chelsea, however, denied that the governor made an “Online Emergency Broadcast” targeted at Cheslea fans as alleged.
He said:
“In the said “broadcast”, Governor Wike was quoted as saying that security agencies have been directed to arrest those wearing Chelsea shirts and send them back to their States.
“The merchants of this fabricated news in their bid to promote this absurd narrative also claimed that the Governor said the State was turning into what the founding fathers never envisaged.
“For the avoidance of doubt, Governor Wike did not make any broadcast today, May 6, 2021.
“This is mischief taken too far by hirelings whose stock in trade is to fan the embers of hatred and cause public disaffection.
“Members of the public are advised to discountenance the said ” broadcast” as Governor Wike has official channels through which he makes broadcasts to the people of the State.”
