Fabiyi Gives Police Deadline To Release Baba Ijesha
Popular Nollywood actor, Yomi Fabiyi has given the police a Wednesday deadline to release fellow actor, Olanrewaju Omiyinka, aka Baba Ijesha from detention.
Baba Ijesha is accused of molesting a minor in the custody of popular comedienne, Oluwadamilola Adekoya also known as Princess on at least two occasions. Baba Ijesha is alleged to have assaulted the girl when she was seven and coming back after seven years to do the same thing recently.
GreenWhiteGreen GWG reports that a video of the latest assault which went viral has drawn diverse reactions with many slamming the actor over his action.
The police which had initially wanted to release him was upon public outrage after the release of the CCTV footage forced to backtrack.
But responding that the continued detention of Baba Ijesha was against his fundamental human rights, Fabiyi said that he was giving the police a Wednesday, May 12th, 2021 deadline to release Baba Ijesha otherwise he would mobilise Nigerians for a protest.
Fabiyi in a post on his Instagram page, wrote:
“PEACEFUL PROTEST on Human Rights, Illegal Detention by Police coming up on Wednesday if the Police refuse to do the right thing and grant BABA IJESHA administrative bail which is his fundamental rights.
“Any progressive state and society MUST respect the RIGHTS of others as enshrined under the law.
“If you refuse to be concerned now, remember it could be you. FORCEFUL ARREST, ILLEGAL IMPRISONMENT is a major tool of OPPRESSION and POLICE BRUTALITY. We must protest against this vehemently.
“STAND BY WHAT IS RIGHT. #RELEASEBABAIJESHAONBAIL #SAYNOHUMANRIGHTSVIOLATION.”
The threat by Fabiyi is bound to put the police in a bind as it navigates public sensitivity and the fundamental rights of the accused whose offense is said to be bailable.
The initial move to release him saw some popular artitistes staging demonstrations at the Panti Police Station where he is believed to be held.
