All Progressive Congress (APC) Governors are gathering in Calabar, Cross River State on Thursday for a final push to persuade Governor Ben Ayade to defect from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Among those who had arrived as at Wednesday night were the chairman of the party’s Caretaker Committee, Governor Mala Buni and Governors Hope Uzodimma (Imo).

It was learnt that Governor Dave Umahi (Ebonyi) and a number other APC governors are also expected in Calabar on Thursday morning to rally Ayade into their party.

GreenWhiteGreen GWG had reported last March of the plot by Ayade to leave the PDP for the APC after he failed to execute a judgment to stop the zonal congress of the PDP that endorsed the leadership of Chief Dan Orbih as national vice-chairman.

GreenWhiteGreen GWG had also reported of the problems Ayade had been having in the PDP after he failed to push his man as Senate candidate in Cross River North.

Ayade was conspicuously absent at the South-South zonal rally as aides claimed that he absented himself on account of the court order which remarkably, originated from Calabar.

The governor was also absent at last Monday’s meeting of PDP governors where a harsh communique condemning President Muhammadu Buhari’s leadership of the country was articulated.

Many stakeholders expect Ayade to make a decisive pronouncement on his political trajectory after the Thursday meeting with the APC governors.

The development comes two weeks after a delegation of PDP governors visited in a last minute move to dissuade the governor from defecting.

Before that delegation, Governor Bala Mohammed had also been dispatched to persuade Ayade from defecting to the APC.

However, a number of PDP stakeholders according to sources are indifferent if not desirous of the governor defecting to the APC to as they claim give the party a breath of fresh air.
