Friday evening’s meeting between Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Atiku Abubakar at the Abuja International Airport has been stoking reactions from Nigerians with assumptions of a political realignment between two of the enduring political leaders in the country.

Atiku Abubakar and Bola Tinubu joined strategies in 2015 to push out President Goodluck Jonathan and bring in President Muhammadu Buhari.

Subsequently Atiku returned to the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP for the third time and used the party’s platform to fight Buhari in 2019, albeit unsuccessfully. Tinubu, however, endured in the APC and both men who had been political allies now and again have since then travelled parallel political paths.

GreenWhiteGreen GWG reports that Tinubu and Atiku first hit it off in the late eighties under the political leadership of the late Gen. Musa Yar`Adua. They, however, parted ways in 1999 with Atiku going to the PDP and Tinubu joining the Alliance for Democracy, AD.

However, in between, political pundits claim that the two men have collaborated on issues, if not in business, then in political projects including their collaboration to sabotage the third term project.

So, when the two men met at the Abuja airport with insinuations that Tinubu came to receive Atiku, it fed tales of a political conspiracy. It was especially so given the background of challenges and misgivings about the Buhari administration.

Other sources say that it was a chance meeting occasioned by the fact that they were using the airport at about the same time.

Irrespective of the nature of the meeting, Nigerians were giving different readings to the meeting.

While some affirmed that the two leaders were birds of the same feather only feeding from the ignorance of their followers, there were some who hoped for a synergy between the two men.

Since I was born, now I am in my 30s, it’s the same recycled, clueless, greedy & wicked politicians I keep seeing over & over again. are we not tired? Do not underestimate the power of your voters card, Atiku or Tinubu as president is equal to another Failed buhari. NEVER AGAIN

I honestly can not wait for the day this failure called buhari leaves office, we’ll celebrate even more than we celebrated abacha’s death… let’s not also forget that Nigeria does not revolve around PDP & APC, Tinubu and Atiku are not better options. #endsars  cbn governor naira

Adamu Garba II @adamugarba

Yesterday, President Buhari received former President Jonathan in the Villa: Again Asiwaju Bola Tinubu received Former VP Atiku at the airport.

Their aim? Political Power. But you are busy blocking/insulting people for just disagreeing with you. Remind me of your aim again?

Aminu Baba Garamba Jada @AminuBabaGaram4

Abubakar GCON (Waziri Adamawa) and in shaa Allah, the next President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria,

MAO™ @ademide25_

Ladies and Gentlemen, The Waziri of Adamawa, the Lion of Jada, the next president of Federal Republic of Nigeria (In Sha Allah), Alhaji Atiku Abubakar is in town

Goodluck John @GOODLUCKNERO

Talk is cheap…. for APC or PDP not to be the next president… meaning Nigeria enter civil war or military take over power. There is no possibility for both of them to lose to any other party.

When you follow uncle jimi on 99.3 Nigeria info you weii understand what politicians can do. I won’t be surprised if reno welcomes buhari tomorrow. Only concerned about the moving funds. The children of the poor will not allow the children of the rich enjoy

Donned @dele_ayeni

All politicians are same. It’s all about negotiating the future of Nigerians. What will make BAT leaves his house at night to meet Atiku in the airport on his arrival after 2 years of enjoyment in Dubai?
