Okowa Begins To Remake Cabinet, Makes Nine Appointments

Governor Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta State on Monday commenced the process of rejigging his cabinet with the appointment of nine Advisers.

 GreenWhiteGreen GWG reports that the governor had two weeks ago dissolved his cabinet on the claim that some members were becoming distracted by the politics of 2023.

Among those appointed as advisers were the pioneer Executive Secretary of the Delta State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (DESOPADEC), Chief Andy Asawata, as his Special Adviser, former Commissioner for Economic Planning, Dr. Kingsley Emu, as his Chief Economic Adviser while a former speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Hon. Emmanuel Okoro was appointed as Special Adviser.

The appointment was contained in a statement issued by the Head of Service, Reginald Bayoko who is doubling as the Secretary to the State Government, SSG.

Also appointed as political advisers were Mr Omimi Esquire and Chief Isaac Anwuzia while Hon Kelly Penawuo, Chief (Mrs.) Mary Iyasere , Chief Edwin Uzor and Chief Godwin Ogadi were appointed as Special Advisers.

Governor Okowa in dissolving his cabinet on May 18, 2021 had explained that he decided to dissolve the cabinet and sack his special advisers as a way of minimizing the distraction that had started to creep into governance.

Governor Okowa is in the second half of his second term as governor of the state is bound by the constitution to hand over to a new governor in 2023 at the end of his term.
