All passengers who boarded a boat from the Five Cowries terminal in Ikoyi, Lagos were rescued just before their boat capsized under heavy tide in Lagos on Friday, July 16, 2021.

The boat was destined for Badagry but within five minutes of departing the Five Cowries terminal, the boat’s engines stopped bringing panic.

 GreenWhiteGreen GWG reports that Lagos experienced heavy downpour for most of the day that led to heavy tide in the waterways.

All five passengers in the vessel were, however, rescued and the vessel recovered and towed to the Five Cowries Terminal where a technical assessment on the cause of the incident will be carried out.

While confirming the incident, an official of the Lagos Ferry Services Company (LAGFERRY) blamed the incident on the high tide of water following the heavy downpour which he said may have tampered with the technical part of the boat.

As the official said;

“No Cause for Alarm! The boat was going to Badagry, but unfortunately stopped five minutes after casting out of Five Cowries Terminal.

“All passengers have been successfully rescued, while the boat moved to safer harbour till the heavy rain stopped and will be taken to dry dock for technical assessment. We appreciate your genuine concerns.”
