More Trouble For PDP As Additional 4 NWC Members May Resign

Barely a few days after seven (7) deputy national officers of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) resigned, there are insinuations four other members of the National Working Committee (NWC) may dump the party.

According to a report by The Cable, the four members of the NWC threatened to resign if the leadership crisis jolting the party is not resolved. One of them is Udeh Okoye, national youth leader of the party.

Recall Okoye had escalated the crisis for the national chairman of the party, Uche Secondus, when he addressed a press conference demanding the resignation of the national chairman after seven deputies in the National Executive Committee, NEC tendered their letters of resignation.

Green White Green (GWG) also recalls the seven who initially resigned were Diran Odeyemi, deputy national publicity secretary; Ahmed Bello, deputy national legal adviser; Umoru Hadizat, deputy national women leader; Divine Amina Arong, deputy national auditor; Hassan Yakubu, deputy national organizing secretary; and Irona Alphonsus, deputy national financial secretary.

As a source privy to the development had commented: “Anytime there is a major festival like Sallah or Christmas, much goodwill comes to the party but the second line officers comprising the deputies do not get to benefit from the largesse,” a source disclosed.

Meanwhile, ex-Vice President and former presidential flagbearer of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, has refuted speculations making the rounds that his meeting with Rivers Governor, Nyesom Wike, was the cause of the calls for removal of the party’s national chairman, Uche Secondus.

In a disputing statement made available to the media by the ex-Vice President’s media adviser, Paul Ibe, the speculations “is a beer parlour talk, it is also mischievous. Why will a former Vice President be behind the plot to sack PDP national chairman, Prince Uche Secondus? What will be his interest?”
