A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, APC in Lagos State, Abdul Azeez Adediran, popularly called Jandor has described the recent local government elections in the state as an embarrassment to the party.

He said that the 500,000 recorded as a turnout for the election across the state diminished the party’s 3 million membership base which he said underlined the need for fundamental changes in the party.

Adediran who is also the convener of Lagos4Lagos Movement said that the time for Lagos to work for Lagos and not for an individual had come as he vowed that the APC would present only acceptable candidates in 2023 and not individuals solely chosen by a political godfather.

Asked of his opinion of the recent local government election in Lagos that was swept by the APC, Adediran in an interview with Daily Independent, said:

“That particular election, from the election process to the day of election is considered an embarrassment to everybody who carries the membership card of the party from the state to the national. The governor can go ahead and praise that election, like I said, he is a beneficiary of the bad system. “

Noting the state of the APC in Lagos, Adediran said:

“If you ask us, what is our numerical strength as a party? We will say over 3 million, and in that election we struggled to pull out 500,000 votes across the state. It will tell you that something is wrong within the party.

“The outcome of the election which everybody believed was the ruling party’s affair is enough to tell everyone that all is not well with the party, and we need to do something urgently. “We have been on this for the past six years that we are going to reject a godfather offer in 2023 across all elective positions. We want to elect our leaders and be responsible for those that will lead us, so that they will know that in subsequent elections if they fail to do the needful, we will change them. Today they don’t care for us as members or citizens because they know that we didn’t choose them,” Adediran said of his determination to re-energise the APC in Lagos State ahead of 2023.
