The visit of President Muhammadu Buhari to the national leader of the All Progressives Congress, APC shortly before he departed London for Nigeria has evoked disparate reactions in the polity.

The meeting according to presidential spokesman, Femi Adesina was “all about goodwill and best wishes. We know that Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu had been in London about the same time the president was there.”

However, politics soon took over the news of the meeting between the two principal leaders of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC.

Some stakeholders were quick to claim that the visit by Buhari to Tinubu was a matter of endorsement of the 2023 presidential aspiration, of the APC national leader.

That insinuation was, however, rebuffed by Adesina who said that it was too early for the president to project a candidate as a successor.

“The president himself will dare not jump the gun in terms of supporting one candidate or the other,” Adesina said.

While Tinubu in a statement issued by his spokesman, Tunde Rahman said the visit pointed to the president’s caring nature, it has emerged that the pictures have now opened another bout of acrimony within the APC.

Remarkably, Tinubu who is in London had been pictured receiving visitors almost always sitting down to receive the guests.

However, with President Buhari visiting and with a photo-op on the cards, the image of Tinubu holding a walking stick has in the words of his traducers confirmed claims that the APC national leader is unwell.

It is claimed that some elements in the Tinubu camp were angry with presidential aides for releasing the pictures of Tinubu standing with Buhari holding a walking stick. The pictures were credited to the controversial special assistant to the president on New Media, Bashir Ahmad

The image of Tinubu with a walking stick in the opinion of his supporters gives the impression that he is not well and should not have been released at all.

It has now been alleged by some that the picture was released at the instance of Tinubu’s enemies in the presidency obviously with the intention of showing that he is ill.

So what was conceived as a good act by Buhari who also came on a medical appointment to also visit a senior leader of the party who is in mdiecal distress is now being turned into evil and bad polticking.

For many Nigerians who do not belong to any camp in the APC, they are also worried that the two principal leaders of the APC would travel thousands of kilometers from thier flock to receive medical treatment abroad.
